Practical Support for MRO Teams

MRO work ranges from standard flange gaskets to non-standard covers, enclosure seals and legacy equipment. The first task is to identify the joint and service before choosing a construction.

For non-standard equipment, our reverse-engineering capability uses drawings, samples and photos as enquiry inputs. Manufacture still requires verified dimensions, thickness, material and service data, tolerances and allowance for worn or distorted samples.

Workshop Tip

If the original gasket or design intent is unknown, stop and identify the service before cutting a replacement. For steam, confirm whether it is saturated or superheated and record the coincident pressure-temperature duty, treatment chemicals, cycling, flange and bolting condition, available gasket stress, and code or OEM requirements. A named CNAF grade is only a candidate after its current product envelope is checked.

ASME B16.5 / B16.20 / B16.21

ASME B16.5-2025 covers flange Classes 150–1500 for NPS ½–24 and Class 2500 for NPS ½–12. B16.20-2023 and B16.21-2021 set requirements for the metallic and non-metallic gasket types they cover. Flange class is not a complete gasket selection.

AS 2129 + AS 4087

AS 2129-2000 includes flange tables found on installed Australian equipment. AS 4087:2011 incorporating Amd 2:2023 covers PN 14, PN 16, PN 21 and PN 35 waterworks flanges within its scope. Follow the actual equipment or project reference.

AS 1210 + AS 4041

AS 1210:2010 is a pressure-vessel design and construction standard; AS 4041:2006 covers pressure piping. They are not generic nozzle or gasket dimensional tables. Manufacture to the equipment drawing, applicable flange or gasket standard, and project specification.

AS/NZS 3788:2024

AS/NZS 3788:2024 incorporating Amd 1:2025 covers in-service inspection and fitness for service of pressure equipment. It does not independently set a gasket replacement interval; follow the competent person's maintenance plan, OEM requirements and site procedure.

DIN 2690 / EN 1514-1 / JIS B 2220

DIN 2690 is withdrawn and remains relevant only as a legacy dimensional reference on governing drawings. Use EN 1514-1:2024 for its current covered PN-gasket scope. JIS B 2220:2012, reconfirmed 2021, remains a current flange reference.

ISO 9001 certifies a quality-management system only within the legal entity, site and scope stated on its current certificate; it is not product certification. Specify any source certificate, batch linkage or dimensional report in the order and confirm that the material and manufacturing route support it.

MRO Sealing FAQ

If the original gasket is unknown, stop and identify the duty before cutting a replacement. Confirm the medium and treatment chemicals, saturated or superheated steam, coincident pressure-temperature conditions, cycling, flange standard and facing, flange and bolting condition, available gasket stress, and any code or OEM requirement. A named CNAF product may be a candidate for suitable water, oil or steam duty only after its current product data are checked. See our Gasket Selection Guide for the required inputs.

A drawing, DXF or sample can support identification and manufacture. Photos are useful for triage, but a pressure-boundary replacement also needs verified dimensions, thickness, material and service data, tolerances, and allowance for wear or distortion. Timing depends on the material, size, profile, inspection and available capacity; confirm it when ordering.

Common references include AS 2129-2000, AS 4087:2011 incorporating Amd 2:2023, ASME B16.21-2021, EN 1514-1:2024, and JIS B 2220:2012 (reconfirmed 2021). DIN 2690 is withdrawn and applies only as a legacy dimensional reference where the governing equipment drawing or project specification invokes it.

Cord stock can be professionally joined into large static rings for suitable engineered duties. A spliced ring is not automatically equivalent to a moulded O-ring. Confirm the compound, duty, splice method, finished dimensions and inspection requirements; dynamic or safety-critical service needs an OEM-qualified moulded seal unless specifically engineered otherwise.

Turnaround depends on the material, thickness, dimensions, quantity, drawing quality, inspection requirements and current production capacity. Send the complete duty and drawing, then confirm availability and dispatch timing at quotation.

Old gaskets, photos and sketches are useful enquiry inputs, but recovered geometry does not prove the original material or design intent. Manufacture needs verified dimensions, thickness, tolerances, service data and approval of any allowance for wear or distortion.
