Die Formed Rings

Graphite & Metal Sealing Rings

We manufacture die-formed rings under high pressure into precise cross-sections, using flexible graphite, graphite-metal composites, or PTFE depending on the service. They go into stuffing boxes as individual packing rings, or into flanged and gland connections as sealing elements. We get asked about these a lot for valve repacks where braided packing won't cut it.

Types & Variants

Flexible Graphite Rings

Die-formed from pure flexible graphite foil. For valve stems, pump glands, and high-temperature rotating equipment up to 650 °C in steam or inert atmosphere (450 °C in air).

Graphite-Metal Composite

Graphite rings reinforced with a metal core or wire insert for higher mechanical strength and blowout resistance.

PTFE Die Rings

Moulded PTFE rings for chemical service where graphite is not compatible. Available in virgin and filled grades.

Common Applications

Valve Packing

Individual rings stacked in a stuffing box to seal gate, globe, and ball valve stems.

Pump Glands

Packing rings for centrifugal and reciprocating pump glands where mechanical seals are not fitted.

Flange Sealing

Used as sealing elements in high-temperature flange connections, particularly in steam and exhaust systems.

Materials & Standards

Materials

  • Flexible graphite (99%+ carbon)
  • Graphite-metal composite (SS304, SS316 reinforced)
  • Virgin PTFE
  • Carbon-filled PTFE

Standards

  • API 622 — Type testing of process valve packing
  • ISO 15848-1 — Fugitive emission testing
